Circulating pumps are used specifically to circulate the water in a hydronic heating or cooling system. In commercial applications, circulation pumps are used in HVAC systems in buildings for circulating chilled, hot and potable water, and to circulate cooling water for plants. As is typical in hydronic systems, these pumps are usually electrically powered centrifugal pumps with an in-line design that helps save on floor space.
